One thing I’ve in my over 40 years as a pediatrician is that the bond a parent and child form with their pediatrician is critically important. I was very pleased, therefore, that Divya Raghavan invited me to contribute to her terrific post on betterdoctor.com: “Seven Steps to Picking the Best Pediatrician.”

I was honored to be in such outstanding company and the steps contributed by my fellow physicians were excellent. While my suggestion focused on researching not only a pediatrician’s educational background and training but their treatment philosophy as well,  I am also in complete agreement with Dr. Andrew Murphy, for instance, who stressed that, to be effective, your pediatrician has to be someone you fell comfortable speaking with. If you aren’t relaxed in their company, you may not ask the appropriate questions!
