Singing The Working Mom Blues to Some Very Special Ladies

I was very pleased to be able to spend some time with a truly inspirational organization last week. On September 19, I went to Houston to give a talk on The Working Mom Blues to the Houston chapter of Dress For Success’ Professional Woman’s Group. Dress for Success does great work and I was struck by how organized, focused, and compassionate everyone was.

The women in the Professional Woman’s Group were truly inspirational. They came from all walks of life, including women from abusive situations and recovering from addictions and personal setbacks.

They face particular challenges going into the workforce. As single 12002608_10153178932451958_7617787277194925762_o-1mothers, they’re not just trying to develop their own new careers, but are also very focused on providing a better quality of life for their children as well. They face this duality with such hope and sincere determination, providing a great role model for their children. Their questions were all extremely thoughtful, with many asking about ways to provide consistency, stability, and a positive environment for their kids.

Another reason I love giving these talks is because I have a lot of fun singing The Working Mom Blues. I did my best Muddy Waters impersonation and it seemed like everyone in the room was clapping, humming, and tapping their feet to the beat!

I’m looking forward to doing more with Dress for Success in the future: it’s an amazing organization, fueled by the fortitude, determination, dedication, and passion of both the staff and membership.
